Brief History of the Miniature Zebu
 | | Anthony Cabral with RVB's Ajax a miniature gray Zebu Bull |
Miniature Zebu cattle are one of the oldest know cattle breeds in the world. Most would say the breed dates back to around 3000 B.C. The name Zebu is a term that is synonoymous with "Bos Indicus," the scientific name for the humped cattle of the world.
Very little is know about the miniature Zebus early history, but we do know that the breed came from southern India and Sri Lanka in Asia These cattle are thought to be the world's oldest domesticated breed and are very tough-hardy little cows that thrive in hot weather.
At the withers behind the hump, a miniature Zebu height should not exceed 42 inches fully grown. Many of them are far smaller. A mature mini Zebu cow should weigh between 300 to 500 pounds and a bull from 400-600 pounds. The colors they come in are gray, red, black, and even spotted.
These bovines were first introduced into the United States in the mid 1850s. Although they are still few in numbers there are more and more breeders starting to raise these tiny little cattle due to the fact that miniature cattle over all have become very popular here in the United States and more people are trying to get thier foot in the door of this exciting new industry. If your looking for a breed of cattle that breeds true time and time again then Zebu is a good place to start.

 | When new borns Zebu calf's are double jonined making it possible for thier front knees to bend both directions forwards and backwards. When seen for the first time you always take another look but it is perfectly normal for this breed of cattle.

 | | Even a 2 year old like my son Isaac already shows interest in the miniauter calf's and wants to feed a calf all by himself. He is not strong enough to hold the bottle but gets help from this bottle holder. Dad is happy because Isaac is learning responablity and carrying for the calf's at a extremly early age which will only help him in the future. After finishing a warm bottle of milk Isaac pets the calf on the head for a job well done. It is not that easy being a 17 lb calf. Followed up with a well done huge is due to show love.
After all that a good by kiss and a see ya tomorrow to end the day.

 | | Mini cattle pros has gotten thier zebu herd down to the size they always wanted. This miniatue zebu calf is a couple days old and was under 20 lbs at birth. With this size it is easy to say that this tiny heifer will mature well under the 36" mark which is needed to be considered a micro miniature.
