Each bull is let out on his turn to ivestigate a full size steer which is being used as a dummy cow.
MCP Little Bully Boy is very small for a registered full blooded British White Park bull. Look at his nice size. A nice bull for any herd.

For first time miniature bulls it takes time for them to feel comfortable around a bovine that is twice thier size. Not only that it also take pateince to teach a bull to mount the "dummy cow". Some figure it out rather quickly, while others can take a trip or two.
At Hoffman A.I. breeders in Logan, Utah, Little Bit Cranberry gets ready to jump this steer for the first time to have his semen collected for artificial insemination to be used around the country.

 |
Once confortable, the bull starts investigating by smelling around the back end of the "dummy" cow for estrus cycle also know as "heat".

Smaller bulls do have a harder time, however once they fill comfortable, they prepare to mount.
MCP Elmo at Hoffman A.I. has a long look up to see the back of this steer. Look how small Elmo is beside this steer. Truely Elmo is one of the smallest belted bulls we have ever seen.

Mounting happens in a blink of a eye as you can tell from the picture quality. The bulls are this fast to avoid possible injury from a grumpy cow.

Even though this happens rather quickly, a trained collecter can collect the bulls semen in a leather case that has a plastic water bag inside filled with heated water the same temperture as the bulls external extermities. This is to keep the semen from being damaged.
